Ultimate African Culture and Nature Experience + Kruger

This tour is designed for the traveller looking for the complete cultural and nature experience in southern Africa, along with a safari in the northern parts of Kruger National Park. The duration of the tour is nine days / eight nights.

While in Kruger you will partake in twice daily game drives. One of these game drives will be in an open safari vehicle and another a morning walk (subject to availability). The rest will be in a closed air-conditioned vehicle in the company of an Elephantastic guide. Kruger Park accommodation is in mid-range Parks Board units.

For the rest of the tour we stay in luxury safari tented accommodation in Mapesu Wilderness Camp, within Mapesu Private Game Reserve, situated in close proximity to Mapungubwe National Park. This is on a full board basis.

Mapungubwe is home to one of the earliest known civilisations in Southern Africa. The Kingdom of Mapungubwe flourished from around 1075 to 1220 AD on a hill near the confluence of the Shashe and Limpopo Rivers. Today the site is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and offers the tourist an incredible cultural experience. You will be taken on a tour of Mapungubwe Hill and the award winning Interpretation Centre.

To enhance the cultural experience, Mapungubwe has one of the top ten San Rock Art sites in South Africa. You will be taken to the San Rock Art Site.

The area is also home the “Big 5” and other game, providing great game viewing. On the nature side you will have ample game viewing opportunities.

You will get a thorough understanding of the “behind the scenes” activities involved in nature conservation at Mapesu Reserve, ranging from anti-poaching efforts, animal re-introduction and capacity management, fence and road maintenance, water management and bush clearing.

You will have the opportunity to take part in endangered wildlife tracking. With the focus on conservation of endangered wildlife, this activity involves the use of telemetry and techonology to pinpoint the animal’s location. You will also be tracking on foot.

You will undertake a specialist birding excursion to enjoy many of the 383 recorded bird species in the area.

You will partake in a Walking Safari in Mapesu Private Game Reserve.

The tour usually starts and ends in Johannesburg South Africa. Alternative arrangements in this regard may be accommodated.

Do you offer self drive options of your tours?

Yes we do. All our tours including a tailor made tour can be taken as a self drive option. Transport and guide related costs would be excluded.

When is the best time to visit South Africa?

• South Africa generally has a temperate sub-tropical climate with warm to hot summers and moderate to cold winters. With the exception of the south western parts of the Western Cape Province (Cape Town area) we have most of our rain in the summer months (November to February). Other factors such as the return of migratory bird species or the annual sardine run may be of interest to you. We recommend that you contact us and discuss your interests.

Why do you not show exact pricing?

• There are many factors to consider when costing a tour. We believe that we can give you better value if we take your circumstances and personal preferences into account.

Can we bring Children?

• Yes, in child friendly resorts. Most Wildlife resorts do not allow children under twelve years of age on open safari vehicles. Children over the age of twelve are usually considered as adults. Please contact us to confirm the child policy of the different resorts.

Can we combine two or more of your tours?

• Yes, tours can be customised to your taste and preferences. Domestic air travel may become necessary at an additional cost.

Can we request a specific destination?

• Most definitely yes. We can draw up a customised itinerary for you.

Are your tour activities suitable for senior citizens?

• Please advise us of senior citizens in your group when requesting a quote. We will ensure that all activities are suitable for them.

Do you cater for people with special dietary requirements?

• Please advise us of special dietary requirements when requesting a quote.

You only give an indication of price for 4, 6 and 8 adults sharing double accommodation. What happens if we are a larger group?

• We cater for groups of all sizes. The pricing on the website is merely an indication of what to expect. Please contact us for a quote.

Do you cater for disabled tourists?

• That is dependent on the nature of the disability. We are not in a position to give specialised care at this point in time. Please contact us to discuss this.

What about malaria?

• The high risk malaria area in South Africa is generally confined to the north-eastern regions. We would however strongly recommend that you consult a health care professional on this matter prior to coming to South Africa. Anti-Malaria medication usually reduces the risk considerably. Other measures such as insect repellents can also be effective.

How do we pay you?

• Use the payment function on this website.
